TNO is an independent organization that focuses on innovative and applied research. TNO envisages a world where social challenges are addressed and resolved by deploying sustainable and innovative solutions, because innovation and technology have a significant impact on economic growth, wealth creation and poverty reduction. One of the focal areas of TNO’s activities is Energy, combined with applied research for innovative solutions in sustainable energy supply.
This concentrates on more efficient methods for the production and usage of oil and gas, but as leader of a national research program, TNO aims to develop state-of-the-art methodologies to better assess geothermal potential and to deliver knowledge on geothermal electricity. TNO is active in the field of geothermal energy through research as well as development of geothermal resources in the Netherlands, in Europe and in other parts of the world. TNO is member of the steering committee of the Joint Program on Geothermal Energy (JPGE) and leading the sub-program resource assessment in the European Energy Research Alliance (EERA), harnessing research power of over 20 leading research institutes in Europe. Relevant fields of expertise are: integrated (fluid flow, mechanics, chemistry, thermal) modeling of geothermal reservoirs, resource mapping, resource and performance assessment , geothermal database design and information system development.
